This is Emo's first magazine cover. It was a first for People to have a cat on the cover, but there have been many others since this. His first movie had not been released when this issue was printed and he was relatively unknown at the time.
This is from Emo's first feature film "Attack of the 50 Foot Cat", a low budget sci-fi that CATapulted him to stardom. The scene in the poster was shot at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, not far from his home at the time. That is really a 50 foot Spoon and Cherry in the photo.
As a result of his extraordinary work in "Attack of the 50 Foot Cat", there was a nomination for an Academy Award for best animal in a leading role. At this point in his life, he had nowhere to go but up, and although he was a favorite to win, he was not upset when he lost this Oscar to a horse that year.
